Quick TT Question

Try it. With the wheels on the ground, lay on the ground next to the truck behind the front wheel and reach under to the torsion adjuster bolt. Evaluate your clearance based on your reach.

I had a buddy that owed me money and didn't have cash so traded for two sets on his matco account.

Those are sweet! Ive got 4 3-ton stands at home and they're enough for all that I would ever need. If I need something that requires a 12 ton stand it's too expensive for me to work on lol

Speaking of jack stands, have any of you guys ever taken your wives finger nail polish and put a different color on each tooth, then matched it with the other stands.

That way when laying under the car you dont have to count each tooth, you just see what color your on, and make sure all the others are on the same color?

Neat little trick i got from the old man.

Does it matter if one's slightly lower?

Holy $hit thats ****ing genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I've been using inferior technology by counting every time.

That could've been so useful this summer!!!

Does it matter if one's slightly lower?

I dont think its at sturdy if its not on the exact same one. because when your on the same clicks, that means that section of the vehicle is level. Which means the surface area of the vehicle touching the jack stands is maximum.

If on side is lower then the other, then the vehicle is actually only on the edge of the jackstand, making it not as sturdy.

Just my .02 on the subject. I know when im laying under 3 tons of iron i want everything as strong and stout as possible.

When i was 8 i watched a pontoon boat crush my dad. He was under it working on the wheel bearings on the trailer. The jack stand fell out from under and the pontoon caught him chest. Crushing his 9th and 10th vertebrae. Some how he wasnt paralyzed by the incident. So any time im under a vehicle, i've got stands (leveled) and then tires under the tires incase the stand flops over, that way it doesnt come all the way down.

Or it'll end up being at an angle, making it slightly less stable. I'd just take the extra 30 seconds to make sure it's all level. I was always taught that it should be level.

always jacked and jack standed on solid concrete with no cracks if possible. level the stands and always to the frame rail. once you're on stands give her a good shake if she falls then be glad you were not under her. if she doesn't fall then your stable enough to work on her.

Haha well my dad is a mechanic but my parents got divorced when I was little so noone taught me :p
I just throw the stands under it, truck did fall one time but it was only supported by a bottle jack sitting on a couple wood blocks :D I probably woulda been killed had I not thrown stands sorta somewhere around the frame, scared the CRAP outta me
I've started throwing the tires under the axles/frame as well when working. Got the idea for mountainergreen

I've heard way too many stories of guys around here that were killed by falling vehicles to EVER trust a jack. I dont even trust jack stands...

With our two post, we had a glitch one time and my jeep almost fell off of it. I really dont even like lifts. Just something about being under that much dead weight. one little slip up and it will kill you.

Well we tried it on the ground but the bolts were way harder to twist than I remember mine being. So we jacked each side up with an f250"s bottle jack and twisted it right up. Now he wants to do an AAL or shackles! He's infected by the bug!

Haha good job! BTW mtn bike bug has definitely bite me, rode the new bike today! Ate it hard and messed up my elbow but none the less had a ton of fun :)

That's awesome. I wish I had my mtn bike at school but I have nowhere to put it.

How do you not have anywhere to put it? My school is FULL of bicycles, theres about 500 bikes in front of each dorm. Add in the class buildings, and ones inside the buildings and well yeah...

True, there were almost as many bikes and scooters at UGA as there were jacked up pickups. Almost...

Haha not to many jacked up trucks at Southern Poly, saw A LOT more in highschool. And those kids went to the local community college or some welding program. I'm glad though, can't stand seeing a 2010 Chevy 1500 4x4 with crap bumper, 14" of lift and 37x14.50x20 Nitto Terra Grabbers, and don't forget the un godly loud muffler. Can't get pu$$^ with a decent sounding muffler, gotta make sure everyone in a 5 mile radius can hear you
And yet those dingalings made of my explorer, go figure the x has gotten some respect in college. Has nothing to do with the fact I go to a technical school

Lots of bro trucks at Georgia. The frat guys from Atlanta either drive girly Beemers or lifted 1/2 tons, of course repping the house they're in so you know which guys they spend their nights with.
