Quiet Exhaust under $270 and test pipe available

but you cant make 500 hp and have 150lbs of tourque in a normal engine (not one that would hold together anyway)...

but if you could you could gear appropriatly and use the gear to apply your needed tourque.and whip a a cars/truck butt with 500lbs of tourqe and 150 hp....

most people have a simplistic view of tourque vs hp and vise versa and compared to gears.

I will try and dig up some info for you guys to read.

it all physics. and very easy to explain but you have to look at the whole picture.

dont forget about the 5.0L FMS headers.........great design and fit on the Ex

I'll give you a finders fee if you find me a pair :-) of headers

OH THATS RIGHT Ford quit making those suckers didnt they?

I bet a dealer somewhere has a set on the shelf still...I will ask next time I am in the local Motorsports dealer (later today)

I found a set of chrome valve covers for my old 2.9L almost 5 years after they quit making them......

Some Honda engines get up near the 350 HP mark with little over 150 ft lbs of torque.......but I always exaggerate everything, so you just have to get the basic point and not nit pick the numbers when I am talking......

gearing is nother pet peeve, people are always saying, my 4.0L Explorer kicked the sh*t out of my friends hopped up S-10 Vortech 4.3L 2wd blah blah blah....but they never talk about who has what ring and pinions......

I can put 4.56 in a 2wd Ranger, 27" tires with a 3.0L V6 and go beat hopped up Prellude's all day long from stop light to stop light...

So did they quit making those kick ass single/double tube 5.0L headers?

Replace exhaust system and CATS?

Ok, I've read this thread and others and I am still trying to decide about redoing my custom exhaust system. I have a single flowmaster exhaust (delta 50 series) and didn't really notice much difference in performance after the system was put on last summer.

I want a dual exhaust system, preferably with headers, but that won't happen :(. Would replacing the 4 cats with 2 high flow cats benefit my X if I did a true dual exhaust, high flow cats out the back (with an H pipe)? Or will thta rob low end power? I am looking for overall performance here in my X and do want true duals, but the cat debate confuses me.

I think you would gain power....

but flomasters suck... the straight through muffler sfrom dyno max, borla, magnaflow, any like that would be best.

it will bring your power band up but in the end the truck will be faster. read article above.

tourque at higher RPMs is best.

yes the 4 cats to 2 cats will provide power, as well as keep the tourque curve low.

Jester, I recommend you read through at least some of the other exhaust threads on this board.

I've read

I've read quite a few threads about exhausts, mufflers, cats and backpressure. However, they are not consistent, that is my reasoning for still wondering what it owuld do it I did replace my 4 stock cats with 2 high flow ones. What would I gain/loose in power, torue and where in my RPM band? Would I gain anything by replacing my cats (along with a new dual system and H pipe)? I am just looking for the basic answer, yes, or no or an opinion from someone who has done that or similar. I'll of course keep searching though...

I'll let you know in about a week

but i'll bet I pick up and gain more average power.

gonna base line this friday and then start the exhaust mods.

Mac 2.5>3" cat back and then fit it with a test pipe and I'll test the test pipe individualy.

the power band should shift higher about 400 RPMs with the exhaust and intake mods allowing you to use the lower gears longer.

any upward tourque band shift I have will be corected by a chip to add more timing and to add some at low RPMs

offten times you dont get a loss in low RPM tourque it just seems that way cause the upper RPM pulls harder....

i have dyno graphs from a car that has evey mod done thats said to reduce torque.

short runner intake ,remove IMRC controls, shorty big tube headers removed Cats with 3" exhaust etc.

if you super impose the two tourque/hp curve the modded curve never at any point is below the stock curve from 1500 (where the graphs start.)all the way to 7000 but the HP gain is in the 90+ RWHP range and the peak was raised 1000RPM but after 3500 the tourque curve starts to rocket away form the stock curve. I'll dig up the graphs and post em...

a motor is a motor 5.0 or 4.6 ,airflow is airflow and HP is HP.
I have simlar graphs from a car with GT-40 heads and a cobra intake (very similar to the exp stuff.) and gains are the same.
