so I got this explorer about 2 weeks ago and the clutch went out on me all of a sudden, the stick feels really loose while in gear and it was fighting with me to get into gear, and almost dies in idle with the clutch on.

so I'm trying to have it done somewhere else because I don't have the resources here to do it

so i came across this:

Its a performance clutch, but is it worth the extra 150 bucks or should I just get a stock replacement?

I would say it may not be worth it unless you are doing some severe duty stuff on your clutch. Extra horsepower, racing, and towing would probably fall into these categories. If you do hard core off-roading it may be worth it too. But for a daily driver that is just doing normal duty, it may be just a waste of money. I wouldn't think it would necessarily last longer than a normal one under normal conditions, and may affect driveability. Plus depending on mileage and such on your truck, a new clutch now may outlast the truck itself.

Have you checked the fluid reservoir for the hydraulic clutch? They do get low and then act about like your describing. Take the cap off, then the black diaphragm cup ( i missed that once in the dark). fill about halfway. Stab the clutch pedal 2 -3 times. see it that makes any diff.

that's the first thing I did when I got home, it's about 3/4 full

I'm gonna call around tomorrow and see how much it would be to have it done professionally

took her down to a professional today, gonna run me 610 everything included assuming the slave is alright.

on a side note, my girlfriends 3.8 v-6 firebird chews through gas faster than the 4.0 in the explorer?!?!
