I have a 99 Explorer 2wd v6. My rack and pinion is leaking from the right boot.I have never worked on this before can I just replace the seals, get a rebuild kit, or do I need to replace the whole thing. IF anybody can lead me to any good post here or give me any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

i had the same problem on mine the left boot had a hole in it so it was leaking like crazy all i did was replace the boot its easy just bust that tie rod from the linkage and pull out the the bad boot

You have a bad seal and will have to replace the entire Rack. The boot only keeps dirt out so replacing that won't fix the problem it will just fill the boot with fluid. You can get a remanufactured Rack and Pinion from most any parts store from $130 up. I don't know if there is a how to write up but I've done mine twice, thow its not something I want to do again it can be done in an afternoon. You will also have to get an alignment done.
