Hey all -

I have a radar detector that I use in the X sometimes...

the problem is, sometimes I forget to turn it off.... and it doesn't turn off automatically, so it ends up draining my battery.

is there some way that I can make it so that the cig lighter only has power when the car is running?

You can cut the power wire and tap it into an IGN wire or fuse. You can tape it into the radio + wire for example.

You can get a hard wire kit & not have to worry about the cord at all. I have this for my V1. 2 wire hookup. 1 to a ground the other to a switched fuse in the fuse box. I used the power mirror fuse.

Same here. Get the hot wire kit for that radar detector and have it wired in so it turns itself on and off with the ignition. That is the way I run both of mine. I have the Passport 8500 and the ZR3 unit.

where can i order a hard wire kit online?

You can get them off eBay the cheapest.

it drains your battery? i belive they draw 1 amp

I would go to a place that sells that detector and get it there.
