maybe the antenna came un plug from back of stero? just a thought

Sounds like an antenna problem.

That's what I would look for first. If the unit had been removed for some reason, it's entirely likely that the plug might have slipped when it was put back in.

I agree sounds like an antenna problem. In my 97 limited the antenna ran to the passenger kick pannel towards the Amps (RDS radio), there was a disconnect there in the kick pannel and I think there was a disconnect at the fender where it goes to the antenna. Good luck

Not to make matters worse for you, but on my '98 one day the reception just got worse then it was and that was it.

Since then I have changed the Antenna and radio and no change. Sometimes the reception will be excellent and other it will be really bad, though unlike you I do get some stations.

You antenna must be disconnected, it can be accessed through the glove box if you don't want to remove it. To remove it you will have to purchase the radio removal tool from Autozone for $4.

the antenna is disconnected or the antenna line is broken somewhere. I had it come disconnected out of the back of the radio in my last explorer.

also search for remove radio, I believe I have seen a thread with directions on how to use a coat hanger to remove the radio.

Is your radio able to scan for a station either am or fm which means it is detecting a carrier which likely means you have some form of antenna. If so, something is likely wrong with the demod section. If it never locks to a station on scan, then there is a good possibility (as others pointed out) that you antenna connection is not good.
