did you already cut the wiring harness off? If not, you can go to any local audio retailer who carries metra products. If you have the premium sound system just ask them for a metra 5511 harness. If you have the basic sound system, ask them for the metra 1770 harness. If you already have it cut, let me know and tomorrow when I get to work I will print out the wiring diagram for your vehicle.

all the wire colors + what they do should be printed on the back of the radio. Most aftermarket harnesses use the same color-wires as the aftermarket radio makers do.

Wal-mart carries adapting harnesses for cheap

Thats not ford wiring, thats aftermarket universal wiring color code. If it had an aftermarket in the before and they left those colors intact thats awesome, it makes your job that much easier as you just have to match colors. If not, these are the factory radio color codes:

Constant green/yellow
ACC yellow/black
Ground black

Front Left+ orange/ lite green
Front left- black/white

Front Right+ white/green
Front Right- black/white

Rear Left+ pink/green
Rear Left- blue/orange

Rear right+ pink/blue
Rear Right- green/orange

remote dark blue

illum. blue/red

Is it the same for a '91 Ford/JBL system, Keith? If so I'll print it out and keep if for future reference ... Nothing wrong with the stock one except it's cassette and I may put a CD in it a couple of months down the road

Click here to go t my page. There you will find actual wiring diagrams for several things including the stere. If you need something that is not there send me an email and I will see if I can pst it on the page.

What are the colors for the 96 i got a harness but there is a mess of wires in this block thing that dosnt budge. I am so frustrated i am going to cut and splice so what are the colors??

got the diagram from his site trying the cut and splice in 10 minutes

97 ford explorer help....radio seems to have no power....only has two connectors in the back...is it suppose to have more?? maybe a power or antenna cord.... theirs one connector square-ish and the other is rectangular...the square-ish one was cut off but i had the connector that was cut off still...so i tried my best to connect all of them and the other connector (the rectangular) was fine...but after all that work of connected the spliced end of the cut connector no power was getting to the unit...any answers or ideas for me.... please... circuit city said something like my system was running 2 ohms since its an eddie bauer and would need to be converted to 4 ohms costing me around 6 or 7 hundred dollars and so forth...is their a way i can fix this problem...

Jason
Your squareish one has a metal jacket. Correct? If so that is for the speakers. This I know because I bought an aftermarket wire kit, but the speaker ones is wrong. Radio works with the following

Black Ground
Yellow Battery / Constant power
Red Ignition

Still trying to figure out the speaker thing though. Seems as if you have the square, you have a hidden amp either in the rear right panel or somewhere.

Walter

Quick Update: If you have the 8 pin square thing you have premium sound. That comes with an amp in the passanger side rear wheel well inside. Need to hook the long rectangular blue wire up as well. In my aftermarket plug, blue aftermaket plug went to blue truck amp.

Please a need help to connect a new stereo in my explorer xlt '94

i cut wires (plug with 8 wires)to speaker, but when connect the new stereo not start.

if i connect the blue wire (New stereo) to logic mute what hapend with de power to speaker? because my new stero ´didnt need amp.

Your 94 radio should work with the following (at least for me it did)

Black, yellow, red as I said before.
New radio should have a blue wire for amp / power antenna. Hook that to the blue wire on the stock long plug. Only then will the speakers work (amp powers the speakers)

Speaker wires that worked for my stock 94
After cutting the 8 plug square thing (I know.... sorry to do that, But 1 speaker was killing me)
White / red: RF+
Brown: RF-

Purple / White: RR+
Light Blue (no stripe): RR-

Light Green: LF+
White / Orange: LF-

Light Blue / Black: LR+
Yellow (no stripe) LR-

Note: Only found this from a 94 Ranger Premium wiring diagram. 94 Explorer diagram did not show the same colors, so no help.

Thank´s a lot Walter.

Perhaps you Know the 8 pin square on the original radio how is order the speakers? this help me to recognize colors and speakers.
They are two rows with 4 pins.
the speakers have one pin of each row? wich one (i.e:first couple for RF)?
