hey i have a 94 xlt and its along the same lines as this thread n i was wondering if ne one could help me out... i got the wiring harness and all that jazz just fine but i cant get the stock radio out! i did the whole putting the coat hanger bits into the 4 holes but its behind the dash still right? i tryed pulling the dash off but thats a joke and a half cuz it doesnt just come off like its sapost to... does ne one have a info on this or even better a step by step? thanks
matt

Good to hear Fernando.... glad it worked. I hated the silent drives in mine.

Matt.... should come out with the coat hangers..... try a little extra oomph. Mine popped out when I did one side at a time. Put the 2 hanger parts in & give it an outward wiggle on that side, then do the other. I had to exert some force to free the latches to the point where I thought was doing it wrong, but then it ploped out.

anyone have the diagram describing the wires that go into the stock amp for a stock amp/sub set up? I am trying to hook a bazooka tube into it...

Hey Don't Forget, In A 4dr There Can Be An Amp In Each Post Between Doors At Bottom. My 91 And 93 Both Have Them.

Radio to Speaker Wire colors

Your 94 radio should work with the following (at least for me it did)

Black, yellow, red as I said before.
New radio should have a blue wire for amp / power antenna. Hook that to the blue wire on the stock long plug. Only then will the speakers work (amp powers the speakers)

Speaker wires that worked for my stock 94
After cutting the 8 plug square thing (I know.... sorry to do that, But 1 speaker was killing me)
White / red: RF+
Brown: RF-

Purple / White: RR+
Light Blue (no stripe): RR-

Light Green: LF+
White / Orange: LF-

Light Blue / Black: LR+
Yellow (no stripe) LR-

Note: Only found this from a 94 Ranger Premium wiring diagram. 94 Explorer diagram did not show the same colors, so no help.

Walter

I searched the internet for hours last night looking for speaker wire colors. Just about every post I found was for the colors AT THE SPEAKERS. Not trying to be rude, but I think I can write these down as I pull the speakers out and know which wire goes where. What most people want to know is the colors of the wires in the wire bundle BEHIND THE STEREO. Or is it just my stereo/speaker wires that don't match?

Thank you Walter for your post, I found your list of wire colors to be almost exact. The only wire that didnt was the Right Forward Speaker. You had White with Red Stripe, my 1991 Explorer's Right Forward wire was a White with Green Stripe. Other than that, the rest worked like a champ. I was so praying that I wouldn't have to re-cut and re-splice. But nope, sat the wife in the truck and let her have the honors of starting her stereo for the first time. SA-WEET!

Also, thanks as well for your comment about the "Blue/Amp" wire that saved even more headache.

Oh, one more thing to add, for the Constant 12v the wire color for my '91 Explorer was Light Green with Yellow Stripe, Accessory Switched 12v was Yellow with Black Stripe, Ground was Black, and as Walter posted the Blue Wire was for the amp.

Cy :salute:
