I found a 6.5" replacement at Radioshack. It works but is 8 ohms instead of 4 ohms. It was $20 and is polypropylene but better than the paper one that went bad, part number is 40-1033 - online or in store. For those that just want to replace it's a deal, for those audiophiles I'm not sure it will due, but didn't have to replace the whole sub enclosure.

$20 isnt bad for someone who enjoyed the factory system and wants something better then the ford replacement.

Are you sure it's a subwoofer? I'm asking this is because I got a 6.5" woofer from them and after installing it, it sounded like a busted speaker without a tweeter. It stunk!!!!

Often you actually get what you pay for. Cheap speakers are just that.....

8 ohms instead of 4? How are you going to run that with the 4 ohm system? Won't you lose a lot of power?

Oz Audio makes an incredible 6.5" subwoofer. I've played around with them and been able to get better sound at higher volumes than with most 8" subs.

You can run an 8ohm speaker on a 4ohm system just fine, but cant run it reverse of that... A 4 ohm speaker on an 8ohm system will sound bad, but adventaully go kaput.

Oh, I know you can run it, but what I'm saying is that the power going to that sub is at least going to be cut in half. I guess if it works, that's fine... Just seemed strange to me.

OK, in my angst to find a 6.5" replacement and reading someone on this newsgroup did the same thing - I ran over to radioshack and bought the "woofer" and not a subwoofer I was thinking it was.
I recently upgraded to a CD player head unit by Jensen and 4 speakers by Blauplunkt, the sub went south about two weeks before this. Well I didn't really like the sound from the sub anyway, too much distortion, the new 3 way speakers have nice clarity but not the bass umph, the woofer adds what was missing without the distortion.
So no it's not the audiophile system with a subwoofer, but it's better than having nothing back there. It sounds pretty good even if it does not run at full power since it has more resistance.

Spec.
40 Watts RMS, 80 Watts max
Poly cone driver
13 oz. magnet
56-6000Hz
85dB
8-ohm

Update: OK it's been a couple of weeks since installing. I read on this newsgroup about polarity of the subwoofer and changed mine and it does sound better. I don't know what the definition of sub-woofer vs. woofer is, I looked at subwoofers on Crutchfield and the frequency response of the Kenwood 6.75" is 30-3,500Hz and the 6.75" Rockford is 58-250Hz. This "woofer" is within that range although has a higher top end. Speakers frequency is 45-22000Hz and the human ear can hear from 20Hz-15kHz, it appears to me the "woofer" has a response for the lows we humans can hear. The only draw back is it's 8 ohm instead of 4 ohm, but I can't tell the difference, the poly cone vs. the stock paper cone is much better. Again if you want to replace the stock "woofer" don't discount this at $20, Cruthcfield 6.75" will need alteration and are $79 and $129. If you have 2000-3000 watt system no you won't be satisfied unless you have 2 or more 12" thumpers.
