I have a 05' Mountaineer 4.0 v6 Flex AWD. I have roughly 225K miles on the truck. Awhile back I had a code for my EGR, replaced it and code went away, passed emissions and all is great. Now the light is back on, code is for Random Misfire, shop suggested replacing plugs and wires since they were all originals, replaced them all and issue is still present.

I took back to the shop and they did further testing and said i had low compression on all 3 cylinders on pass. side. They diagnosed my truck as probably needing a new timing chain and suggested I replace the engine since it has to be pulled to replace the timing chain and the amount of hours it takes, I would come out cheaper.

My question.. Should I take it somewhere else and get it looked into further? Is it worth putting that kinda money into? The engine would have lower miles but the Tranny would have 225k miles on it, and if that goes I'm out another $1800 to have it rebuilt.

And if this helps at all... several months before all this happened I broke down on the side of the road when my pulley snapped and broke my CPS. They said that could've had enough force to knock out my timing. After having that repaired is when I noticed my engine problems.
