I'm looking for a definitive answer from someone in the know. Will the Trac-lok from my Ramger 28 spline 8.8 work in my Explorer 31 spline 8.8?

My answer will be no. Unless you change out the spider gears because the spline count is different the Explorer shaft will not seat into the case, a kind of square peg in round hole situation.

Best bet is to take the ranger case apart and get the Explorer spider gears and stick in there. Or scrounge the 'yards for a Ranger LS

Definately no. As said above the spline count is different. Explorers are 31-spline and Rangers are 28.

Only 8.8 ring and pinions are interchangeable. Meaning you can use a 8.8 ring and pinion in and 8.8.

the traction devices are spline count related, so no.
:)

Thanks guys. That's what I figured, but hoped I was wrong.

Why would you want to put a clutch pack stock traclock into your Explorer.. get a real locker, if your keeping it reasonably stock, PowerTrax.. if your going for alot of power get a Detroit Locker

Well, cuz the Ex is my wife's, plus the Traclok is sitting in the shed. (read: free!)

I've got a 28 spline trac-lok i need to get rid of too...maybe we should suggest to Rick we should have
a swap meet of sorts for people to sell their old stuff at
T-haven in Jan...I know i've got a lot to sell.

I have a nearly new 31 spline traction loc. Just thought I would add to the mix. Let me know if interested. (Read: send offer)
