I know we all are enjoying the aftermarkets recent acknowledgement of the Explorer as a serious off-roader, and this post is a request for you to bring another manufacturer into our stable.

Road Armor is a manufacturer of tube products (i.e. bumpers, nerf bars, roof racks, etc.) that are the tuffest looking pieces I've seen to date. TNN's "Trucks TV" highlighted their bumpers last weekend on their show on a yellow CJ7, and you will probably recognize them from SkyJackers "Rock Ready" Cherokee used in many of their magazine ads.

Currently, Road Armor only makes pieces for the 95+ Explorers, and after talking with them via phone and email they are considering development of pieces for the earlier models. The catch is, they are not sure of a demand for this model.

I've included the URL for their website below, so please check it out. If you like what you see, please email them and show them your interest for the 90-94 Explorers. Trust me, if you're looking to make a MAJOR statement with your rig, these are the bumpers to do it!

I saw the episode of "Trucks" as well the other day. I would have to say that most of RA's products are a bit too much, as far as looks go. Granted, the model they have for the Explorer is a bit toned down compared to everthing else they offer. I would take a look at a company called TJM in Australia. I believe that they have currently halted exporting to the US, but they will eventually begin to ship here again, not sure as to when, but I was told that I would be sent an e-mail when it does happen. Their products are comparable to ARB and they have an excellent sellection. The only thing is that I am not completely sure what they make for 1990-1994 Explorers. I am still not even sure what they do or don't make for 95+ Explorers. Here is the web address: http://www.tjmproducts.com.au/ . And here is the address to their bull bars: http://www.tjmproducts.com.au/bull_bars.html . Look through the site, they have some great products.

Aftermarket Bumpers

There don't seem to be a lot of choices out there for late model bumpers/bull bars. The Road Armor products are awesome, but pricey. Anyone have any other resources (preferably in the US) for bumpers?

Road Armor is actually in Washington, in fact they have the same area code I do (425). After having seen a Blazer they modified in person, I can tell you guys these things look even more bad ass in person! I'm making my own prerunner bumper, but if I wasn't I'd be seriously considering talking to them.

TJM does make Bull Bars for the '95+ Explorers, but they cost about $700 and I was told by them that shipping in Australian Dollars would be around another $700.

www.desertrat.com claims to have some T-15 Bull bars from TJM still in stock.

Can't get my mind off of those Road Armor Bumpers!

That looks pretty awesome, but......

A simple question:

Dead Link Removed

How do you open your hood?

Oh, here it is, new owners manual instructions on checking your oil:

[1] Remove 400lb front bumper
a) 2.5 labor hours requiring two workers and hydraulic lift.
b) Check oil, 1 minute

[2] Replace 400lb front bumper
a) 2.5 labor hours, two workers, hydraulic lift
b) Buy beer

:D

HaHa!!!!!!!

:D:D HAHA!!!! LOL!!! My God, Gerald, that is one of the funniest things I have read on this site! :D:D

Looks like it is hinged to tilt forward...

Geez,
With that setup, I could weld some gaffing hooks on there and go trolling for deer on the highway...

Set for new movie?

I think this will be in a remake of "Road Warrior"...

Needs a half-naked driver wearing a Mohawk Indian feather headdress weilding a crossbow. I bet with that setup I could finally get to work on time in Dallas commuter traffic.

I love the way those grille guards or whatever the those things are look. I wish they made one that looked like the ones that go on the f-150 and the xj for the explorer. They are still a bit pricey but i'm sure they are well worth the money. If I spent the money on one of those I'd go deer hunting with it :) And I checked out the site they said that they sell rock sliders but I can't find any pictures of closups on the sliders. Does anyone know anything about rock sliders for the explorer? I still have the stock running boards and they are already cracked up from a little four wheelin' and i'm looking to get something better that can take some abuse.

From what was said on the "Trucks" show, the bars are hinged and they simple unlock and fold out. It certainly is an interesting piece of equipment. I'd have to admit though, I am still quite partial to the TJM, it would be great if ARB made some bull bars for the Explorer, I like theirs even more.

Holy Jesus...you might want to buy the beer before you undertake that project!

Seriously, though, I've been looking at the TJM bumper (T-15) for the '95+ Explorer and have been thinking...the 91-94 Explorer shares the same frame, couldn't I mount it on my '93? The frame can't be that different can it?
