hi i have 4.0 v6 explorer with 60000 miles

im a little worried about the noise coming from the engine at 2500 rpm and above its almost like a rattle of some kind. gets louder the faster u go. there is no rattle when u rev in park only when the truck is moving. ive taken it to my local ford dealer and they havnt a clue. theyre soloution is to strip the engine and have a look ??? sound too expensive for my pockets

im in the uk and they dont have much experiance with the explorer so u guys are my last hope. any help would be much great!!!

Are you sure it is coming from the engine? It could be the catalytic converter heat shield, cracked flywheel, u-joint, or a lot of things. Can you pinpoint it a little better, like the sound. Clunking, tinny rattle, etc.? Does it do it in reverse? It could be transmission related and either Brain or Glacier can help you there.

yes its really difficult to hear where its coming from. because it only comes when in motion. and the noise is a fast tick tick kind of rattle hope that makes some sense. everyone who has heard id seems to think that its coming from the engine

Is it the SOHC? Kinda sounds like the timing chain tensioner if so. Mine could easily be heard moving but seemed harder to hear in park for some reason

When the chain tensioners are starting to go, they only make noise when under a fair bit of load. But not to worry, they get worse after time.
