Hello,

I have a 99' XLT that was in a less than desirable cosmetic condition when I got it. While there aren't any dents or anything, the truck obviously wasn't given that TLC. Since I got it, I threw a couple of Flowmasters on there. Unfortunately, there's a sounds that's still bugging, (and embarrassing), me. Specifically, there's a "rough idle" sound that persisted through the exhaust upgrade.

According to this link, it's somewhat common. Sure enough, my sound seems like it's in the same area, (underneath the engine near the transmission). But before I try and do this, is there any "How To's" or something with photos? I'm very noobish when it comes to this sort of thing and don't want to risk screwing up anything in my exhaust. :o

Thanks for any advice or tips!

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to have something to do with subs..haha

It's pretty easy to do, and if you take a look under your car it should be pretty easy to figure out. Good luck, hope it solves the rattle!

Edit:
Alright, I guess I can be a little more helpful. You will find something looking like this on your exhaust, but not so shiny. It will be between the muffler and engine. You will have at least 2, maybe 4 depending. I'm not sure how many your model has. Tap on them with a hammer to find which is rattling.

Then, simply wrap the heat shield tight. That should keep it from rattling. People I know who have only wrapped theirs, and not welded them haven't had problems. Welding is optional, not needed if you don't have a welder. Probably not worth the money to have it welded, unless you can find somebody to do it cheap. Just wrapping it works well. Hope this helps:thumbsup:

Funny you say that because I am getting ready to throw a couple in! :D I guess with them, it would be a nice cover for the rattling ;)

Thanks for the picture though! Seriously, that's a huge help. From the photo, I think I can see where it should be welded. Now to figure a way to get the truck high enough that I can slide under.

Thanks again!
