You have valid point - I have been told that after ~20K miles I will need the new front drive shaft, but $600 is a little exaggerated. 4WheelParts lists it for 399.95, and I bet if you call and speak with someone, you can get it cheaper.

Just to stay in the loop with RCD, I called them last week and someone told me they are working on a Ranger kit for a late July / August release, but its torsion bar, not coil-over based.

Anyone else hear anything different?

Jim (Getting the Superlift 4" kit installed June 8 & 9 and can't wait!)

trailmasters was $600. superlifts is $400. RCD claims no new shaft needed. Like you said with the superlift kit you can get away with the stock shaft for a few miles. but with the TM kit it wont even reach...

Speaking of shafts... i wonder with SOA will the rear shaft need to be extended?

I think it will need to be with a 2-door model. The 4-door should be ok.

Why don't you just take your driveline to a local driveline shop and have it lengthned and rebuilt, it should only be a couple hundred bucks...

Yes, I agree, $600 is A LOT exaggerated and yes that is Trailmaster's price. From the research I have done, the trailmaster has a special double joint. THe name slips me at the moment, I think it is double cardon joint. ANyway, A freind of mine has a 2001 Sport with the trailmsater kit and he bought a new shaft for $200. It replaced the CV joint at the TC but grenaded the dana 35 a few months later. I suggest you get trailmasters shaft, it my be worth the money.

Soupbone, the shaft on the 2dr is long enough, you won't have any problems there.

$600.00 is a BIG RIP OFF.
I got mine done from a place in Salinas CA with a double Cardon joint for $340.00. They also replaced the CV joint at the T-case, because my AtlasII didn't come with the CV joint. I haven't blown my front diff yet.

well the RCD kit claims no new front shaft needed. So they dont drop the diff as far as the other kits or something....? so ill be cool with the rear shaft and SOA 5.5"

I meant to say Superlift, not Trailmaster.

Ray, the shaft Kris got was not a double cardon, that may have been the main cause of the problem. A few weaks after he installed the shaft he would here popping noises occasionally. Now I think that was the shaft binding up. Trailmaster's shaft also replaces the CV joint. The main reason for the double cardon is because it replaces the CV joint.

I have been throwing around the idea of rotating the axel up towards the TC do decrease the angle of the U-joint at the axel. The mounts would have to be cut off and re welded, but I think that would help alot seeing how that is the problem spot.

Hmmm, 5.5".....not sure soupbone. I only have experience with the 4". You'll have to change the angle of the rear axel so you may be ok.

Hey all, For anyone new around here I'm basically the production engineer for RCD.

For the one guy that heard we are using torsions, that's 100% wrong. Our kit will be getting rid of the torsions all together and using a adjustable coilover made by Bilstein.

Our kit will not need a new front driveshaft on the Ford Rangers. Don't know what to say to those of you putting them on the Explorers. We've already had the Explorer marketing debate and it's not really my deal or decision so I'll stick to that. As for release date, August is the newest official release date. From an actual insider I'd say it's VERY likely we'll actually meet that date. At least as far as our manufactured parts go. I don't know anything about the coilover availability or some of the details on a couple parts that will be outsourced. I do know that I've got a couple smaller projects to get released and then I think it will be the next one for me to really push on. It's actually VERY close to being done right now, or at least a large majority of my work is done. I'm waiting for some final changes and decision from the people above. Once I get that info, the next thing after me is production. Let me know if you have any technical details and I'll answer whatever I can.

Hey dude,

How does the shock hoop look now? I thought you said they redid that part? And does it connect to the lower control arm the same as before. Have any new pics? Where is the best place to buy RCD kits?

That shock hoop is what's holding everything up right now. We may be doing away with it completely and using some braces, or we may be combining the braces and the hoop together. That's actually the main thing I'm STILL waiting on. It's been forever, the rest of the kit info is sitting in a box under my desk ready to go. Everytime I see the development guy I ask and push him to find out what the hold up on this is. I'll be talking to him on Tuesday again.

No new photos that you guys havn't already seen. Ummmm, anything else oh, where to buy, not sure, I'd call up our marketing guys and see who they recomend in your area.

hoop

Dead Link Removed here is a good idea Khris?

just wanted to get in on the conversation:D

are they still talking $2200 now for just a front end lift on our trucks?

Prices won't be known until a few weeks before the kit is released. I haven't been told an updated price for a few months now.

Well, I have know clue what the kit is going to cost. DesertSpive is right that we don't know the price till litterally a few weeks before it's released. Where'd that $2200 number come from? Just curious cause I havn't heard anything about prices on teh inside. I do know that we'll probably be more expensive then others for the alone fact that we're including a new spindle and the coil-overs themselves are not cheap. I paid $650 for a comparable set of coilovers for a Toyota a few months back.

Will the RCD front coil overs be adjustable height?

Yes, there will be a certain amount of adjustibility via the collar on the shock and a spanner wrench. But RCD is not marketing it as adjustible. My understanding is that it will be a 5" kit.
