I guess this could be a poll, but I'm just wondering:

Where should I get my new gears from? I got the money now, I want complete rebuild kits for both front and rear. Let me know where ya'll have gone to get this stuff. Good and bad results; etc. Right now the only 2 I'm thinking of are Randy's R&P and 4wheelparts.

I would highly suggest purchasing the gears from the shop you're having it done at. This way, they're liable for the quality of the product, and if anything goes wrong, you have someone local to blame and have fix it. The shop I had mine done at uses Motive, which is a good quality brand. Some shops will use different brands depending on preference. They also usually provide a rebuild kit (bearing/seals) standard.

Thanx, one shop says if I bring in the stuff, he'll install it. Another shop says he deals w/ Randy's, but if I wanted to get the stuff, and have him install it he'll do it that way. Keep the responses coming!

I just recently purchased 4.88's front & rear, and install kits from them before searching for a couple of months and this was the cheapest I could find anywhere, had no problems what so ever ;)

I shopped around some when I regeared and eventually went with ordering from Randy's myself and then having a local shop install everything. Total price, just ounder $1100. That was the cheapest way I could do it while still getting what I wanted. I had several of the gear suppliers tell me to do myself a favor and replace all axle bearings and seals while I am at it and to use Ford gears in at least the rear because they will be much quieter at highway speeds than Yukon or the other brands, which I did because it is my daily driver. Ford gears are a bit more expensive and I cant compare if I had gone with Yukon in the rear also, but I dont notice anymore noise than stock, aside from the tires.

Randy's is good

Accu-Auto has some AWESOME deals at times. just gotta watch em

Shaffer's Offroad
These are the ones I bought for my SAS. I figure if the Superior axles are as good as everyone says they are, there gears can't be too bad either.

4wheelsupply is the best price and quality (same gears as Randys) for the D35.

For the 8.8" I went with Jegs, and got the Richmond Gear set. These are ok, but I wish I went with Yukon. Richmond's are noisey. I installed it myself, so I don't know what Labor would cost -- but I know around here it's VERY expensive.

For the install kits: I went with a guy I know (and he has a ebay store). Here's a link:

Dana 35 IFS

For the 8.8", I also went with Jegs and one of the pinion spacers to take the place of the crush sleeve. It helps a lot so you can always reuse it, never needing to get a new one or over tighten the crush sleeve. Good luck.

Thanx guys. I have a LOT of reading/shopping to do! One more question:

I see some gear sets that are 4.10, and some that are 4.11. I thought the d35 only came in 4.11, but just saw one that was 4.10 on ebay. Is there a difference? Are they interchangeable? I don't want to buy one front and different rear, do I?

Thanx again,

I have a 4.11 Yukon in the front and a 4.10 Ford in the rear. It is fine to have different ratios within something like .03 of each other.

Any one else with ideas on the 4.10 to 4.11 problem?

There is no problem with the 4.10 to 4.11 deal. A lot of toyota guys that swap dana 44s in run 5.38 front and 5.29 rears. I bought all my gears from peakempire.com

Any one else know of "Motive" gears? I saw a complete kit on ebay for a reasonable price. This is for the 8.8, rear axle. Thanx again,

I have Motives. They're nice quality, and quiet.

randy's all the way....great to deal with....but make sure the local shop will install and cover the work on parts you bring in

i bought gears a few weeks ago and went to a local off road shop to price the install, they said 250 and to me that sounded a little unreasonable. what would be a good price for the install?

It's not that unreasonable for labor. I think mine was around $170 for installation.

i would much rather pay 170 than 250, maybe i just need to keep looking for somewhere else to install it

I recently bought yukon gears, axles, master install kits, arb lockers for the front and rear of my D44/9" from completeoffroad.com and saved on both material cost and their shipping & handling is a flat $8.95 per order so overall I saved a alot of money. once you know what parts you want send them a email and ask for a best shipped price on those parts.
