Totaled my '96 GMC Jimmy in 2009
In short I miss my Jimmy, I loved my Jimmy...My parents own a '99 XLT. I drove it more than they did so I already knew I liked explorer's
Here's the only before photo I took when I first bought it.....I only paid $300.00 to a friend for it. Once you read below you'll see why.
Things I've done in no particular order:
Replaced what you see in front. Bumper, Grill, Few parts behind grill, plus a battery housing. Paid like $300.00 for all the parts at a junk yard. It was wrecked in the front. I'd like to punch the people that did the body work in the face. They cut the wiring harness wires off and left little to work with to all the front parking/turn signals...That was a big pain to rewire and sort out. I still need to put it on a frame machine and pull it over some to the drivers side. Friend of mine has one I just haven't took the time to get it done.
-
$400.00 worth of front end work. Upper ball joints, Tie rod ends and all that.
-
AC did not work when I bought it....I got lucky on that as all I needed was a accumulator. Spent around $100.00 for the new freon and the accumulator itself. Did the work myself.
-
I put new brake pads and rotors all the way around. Forgot how much that was but I did all that work myself.
-
CHA CHING$$$$$....Transmission/Differential Rebuild/Overhaul- See for yourself
-
$570.00 new exhaust system. That seemed VERY high to me also but he said explorers are a pain to work with....?
-
Bought a super charger. My brother installed it (he's worked at Townsend Ford since 1987) he also was able to get it at a VERY reasonable price.
-
Bought me some nerfs for $50.00, painted them black and put em on.
-
The last week or so I've been painting all the trim and plastic around it.
So far I have....

I have some question now:
Okay, it's AWD and has the air ride suspension (which surprisingly still works!) with an Normal/Off Road switch inside. In all these takes it's in Off Road mode. What the max size tire I can put on it what will clear my fender walls with ease at factory height.
Not trying to contradict my previous question but I'm still undecided on this......
Should I raise it more or low ride it???
