Hey guys! I have a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT with the rear self adjusting air shocks. About 1 year ago I did the tt & shackle lift. Ever since then within the first 5 miles of driving the annoying check suspension light comes on in my dash and I’ve had enough of it. Is there any way to turn off the light without opening up my dashboard? Thanks in advance! :)

You you are handy, you can reposition the air ride sensor under the truck. You need to extend the sensor arm. This will keep the warning light from coming on. It is confused due to the extra lift you have from the shackles. It has been disucussed before, so you can probably find a few threads about it by searching for "air ride sensor". Good luck.

Your air ride shocks are running without air in them. You have altered the ride height without telling the air suspension. It lets out air until the ride height drops to the OEM setting. The ARC shocks are not made to run without air.

I installed the entire ARC system into my 99 Limited, and I lowered it an inch, plus adjusting the ARC height sensor. It is not easy, so unless you really like the ARC, I suggest that you remove it. That would mean changing the rear shocks, and removing the ARC module(or unplugging it). Regards,

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I’m looking to replace all the shocks and be done with the ARC system anyways. The problem is I called a few shops in town and they said they will only replace the rear air shocks with the same type. The same goes for the tires, there’s no upsizing allowed anywhere. I don’t think I would be able to do it myself and I don’t want to use some unheard of shop, I got screwed that way before. I will call around to a few more places and if it’s still a no go, well I guess I need to do some reading up on shock install.

Welcome David. If that is the plan, than why not start by saving money with this forum. Search on here to decide on the best shocks for what you want the truck for. Then buy them yourself, that will be cheaper than a lot of retail shops which mark up the parts. Surely you can find some place locally that will change the shocks.

As for the ARC, the old OEM versions had wiring going to them also for shock valving. It only functioned during 4WD Low, which is rarely used, and replacement shocks don't have that. Just zip tie those wire connectors off to the side to another wire or frame member etc. They will not be used after you disable the system. The error messages will continue and the compressor run until you disable the system. To do that simply disconnect the two harnesses at the module. The ARC module is directly to the right of the radio in the dash. Remove the radio bezel, then you can get at the two ARC connectors. They go into the module from the top, the module is standing up along the right inner side of the radio opening. Just unplug those and you shouldn't be able to tell that it has ARC afterwords. Regards,
