Hey,

I have a 2001 XLT and my radio has rear controls... so people can change the station from the back seat... anyone know of a way to make this work with an aftermarket deck? I looked around and I don't see any posts on this... please let me know..

I don't know of any aftermarket head units that have provisions for the rear controls. The Ford head unit has a harness of signal wires that plug into it, aftermarket units don't have this harness. However, nothing is impossible. Maybe the remote from an aftermarket unit can be wired such that the rear controls activate the remote which activates the headunit. Another possibility is to open up the aftermarket headunit and splice the factory rear control signal wires into the circuitry to activate the headunit as if you pushed a button.

If you try it, good luck!

p.a.c. makes an adaptor that will allow these to work with most aftermarket head units that have a remote cotrol. it sells at best buy for $60.

Could you please supply more information. How to contact them, a web site, etc?

Thanks in advance....

LOL... I had to laugh openly on that one...

what about it? the fact that I didn't know about the kit? or the fact that fighting rear passengers for which track on a CD to play is really really annoying? :P

Fighting the people in the back =)

That's why the factory stereo has an "override" feature for the Rear Seat Controls. Push and hold preset buttons 3 & 6 simultaneously, and when the RSC icon (looks like a set of headphones) dissappears from the radio display, the RSC is defeated (driver has full control). Push and hold again until the icon re-appears , and the RSC is re-activated.

yea, but when I did that my rear passengers would wine.. heh, you'd think I was hauling 5 year olds.. when they were actually closer to 17 back then.

Most definitely the latter. :P It would be funny if you got mad at your friends and had to lecture them like a parent. "Okay, that's enough! No more radio privileges for you!"

lol I have before.. they used to get crazy in my car.. about a month ago I got the 36mafia, when the smoke clears CD, a very good CD btw.. and after they heard "who run it" they would scream it out the window at random cars as they passed/I passed.. it was very embarassing.. I locked my windows and rolled em up.. GAH! you'd think they were 12.. tunrs out they're mostly 19 tho.. sometimes I wonder heh. they've calmed down now I think (crosses fingers knocks on wood and tests the window lock)
