Rear axle seal replacement on a 2000 XLT Explorer.

Hi!

I have a 2000 ford explore. My driver side axle seal went out and I am in the process of replacing it. I jacked it up on stands , popped off the diff cover, removed the 9mm bolt. Well i found some instructions below

Well I got to the part to take off the c-clips and noticed mine does not have them. How do i pop this axle out to put in my new seal
 






You do have C-clips. They are on the end of the axle shafts within the differential.
You need to remove the 9MM bolt, then the shaft that the 9MM bolt holds. Once that is done, push the axle inwards. You will see the C-clip on the end of the axle shaft.

If you did not have the C-clips on the end of the axle shafts, your shafts would fall out on the first corner you take. They are there, just hard to see sometimes.
Your differential may not have the "S" spring in the pic, that is only found in the limited slip differential.
