Rear axle swap 01 Explorer Sport

Does anyone know if it is possible to swap an independent rear suspension setup from a 4 door Explorer onto a 2 door Explorer sport to replace the solid rear axle? I'm looking for a better ride over rough roads. Thanks in advance.

I'll try to field this until someone more knowledgable pipes in. I'm sure the swap is possible, but VERY expensive to do. For both the parts and all of the fabrication needed. One main contributor to the sport's rough ride is the short wheelbase. So even if you did the swap it still wouldn't ride like a '02+ explorer.

It would be cheaper to get a new explorer more than likely.

Very different frame setups. It could be done, anything can, but it would be a lot of fab work involved.

Get a new X if you want the IRS.

I would suggest some new custom built leaf springs. That would improve your ride and save you some cash.
