My rear brakes are not working at all. I pulled the brake lines off and there is no fluid pressure. The lines are not clugged in the rear. The master cylinder is working properly. The only place where I can see where there may be a clug or defective part is this unit that is just back of the front wheels on the frame rail. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

If you can see a part that is defective, replace it?

I have no idea what the part is or if it even has anything to do with ABS or something else. I need to find my Chilton's so I can identify the part. We tried to remove it yesterday, but the spot that it is in is very tight. I think I am giong to take it to a mechanic and have it checked.

Now I dont know much about the brakes, but I do know that there is a abs pressure modulator that is mounted in the frame right by the fuel filter on mine, have you checked yours?

What you are referring to is the RABS module. Try bleeding the input line from the master cylinder, then bleed the output from the RABS unit. You can bypass this unit yourself for cheap...

replacing the unit is $300, not worth it for something that works a 1/3rd of the time

I am not sure what it actually is, but I think it is the RABS unit. I looked it up in my Chilton's and it looks the same. There is also another unit down there further back and I have no idea what it is. I am going to take it in and have it looked at by professionals. They will give me a free estimate and I can decide which way to way from there. Thanks for the help everyone. I will probably end up bypassing it as one of you suggested.

He's gotta be talking about the Proportioning Valve.

I've heard of them clogging on other vehicles.

Actually, he is referring to the RABS valve. They are known for rusting shut and clogging. I can't remember the exact price, but you can get a remanufactured valve for aprox. $100.
