Rear bumper adjustment

My 99 Explorer's rear bumper is much closer to the body on the driver side and then on the passenger side. I tried to realign it by removing the bumper, but found no in/out adjustment, only side to side. Have I missed something or could the bumper be slightly bent (there is no impact evidence.?

nice to see a guy from richmond on here. Anyway, the bumper can be adjusted in and out - but what you'll have to do is put washers in certain places. I had to do this with my body lift when I raised it. Once you have the bumper off....you should see where the two studs are. Those are able to come off and you can take them off and then but washers on them so that it'll pull it out some. There could be a bend in the bumper - but I do not know. Good luck.

Hey thanks for the rely from Mechanivsville. Doesn't the need to add spacers suggest a mis-alignment somewhere?

I guess. How much is it off - like a half an inch or something? I mean, honestly, I doubt anyone notices this - but if it is a big gap and measurement distance, then possibly noticeable. Take a look at the bumper and make sure the brackets on the bumper are straight and everything. Good luck. Let me know if you need help - or want to play 18 holes in the spring! ha

Fords have very inconstisnt gaps all the way around.

One major misconception is cars roll off the show room floor with out a flaw.

If I had a nickle for every customer who has complained about gaps on their car no where near the repair area,,,,,
