rear diff probs

ive read in some of the post here that some of u have had the same problem i am having. which is the pin that holds the spider gears together has worked it self loose causing the rear end to hang up and jump. which since that pin hits thepinion gear adventualy that pin will be so small the rear will come apart. mine hasnt yet but is close. what my question actualy is im sure i can find the same year rear diff and just swap it out but i want to know what are my other options? as far as mayb a whole rear assymbly, somthing were i dont have to worry about this pin coming loose. im pretty sure that all years previous to mayb 2000 or 2001 have a bolt ,like older style rears, that hold this pin in place and years in newer models have a pressd in pin. O yea i have a 2001 xplorer sport 4x4 4 liter automatic, which i wish ford would have still made manual trannies for these vehicles. but neways i am thinking that im not gonna be able to just swap the differential ,probly the whole housin and everything to get the much tougher rear the older ones have, but if i can just swap the rear diff that would be great. assuming i cant what year rear housing have the best bolt up possibilities? i was told by the dealership when i bought it by 1 of my dads long time friends that this wouldnt be possible but i think it should b. yea i may have to get the driveshaft from the doner to swap out the yoke assymblies since mine has the plate type instead of th u-joint type but other than that and makin sure i have the same gear ratio that should be it right? if any of u have had this problem or know what im talking about is my thinking correct or do i have to stick with th same P.O.S. that ford stuck in my rear?
