So, right rear door is folded up from being open while backing up and hitting the house. my deductible is $1000. I found the matching part locally for $400 . Dare I replace it myself and save $800 and time/hassle of repair shop? Any pitfalls im not aware of? Seems like a bolt on job no? Thanks all.

Wouldn’t you only be saving $600? I highly doubt JUST the door is messed up.

I hit the hatch on my 1st gen against the header for the garage. The worst damage was to the area where the hinges mounted to the body of the Explorer. The new hatch would not line up properly with the damage there.

If you are good at doing body work, do it yourself.

Have you received a quote from a body shop to do the work using the door you found? Don't forget there are also electrical connections involed.
Were the hinges damaged? A picture might be helpful. Good luck.
BTW, there is also this; Body Work & Detailing
I'm guessing that you probably want this fixed ASAP.
