OK, I finally snapped some pics of the door scrubbage on my 2006 Limited I bought a few weeks ago.

This only happens with the rear doors. I can put my foot on the rubbing board and push down and open the door and don't feel it rub.

I haven't actually gotten underneath the vehicle yet but I have felt underneath it looking for some bolts and have yet to find them.

I would imagine the boards are bolted directly to the frame. My thinking is to loosen the bolts at the rear of the running boards and install some flat washers between the boards and frame to drop the boards down about 1/8" or enough to gain some clearance.

The flaring is lined up so I doesn't appear that the doors are sagging.

Anyone ever had this happen to their 2006 to 2010 models?

Oh yeah. Got some new Autolite plugs @ $13 a pop!! I have not unstalled them yet but they look much easier to get to than on my 96 model. I hooked up my Actron code reader to see if the computer had stored any codes. It mentioned something about the ABS but there are no check engine lights coming on or any codes being stored regarding random missfires. It just feels like a missfire at low speeds <50 mph.

I'm going to run the tank down until the low fuel light kicks on and top if off with some fresh gas and add some TechTron fuel injection cleaner to see if this does any good.

It kind of looks to me like rocks, mud, and dirt like to build up on the bottom of the door trim in that area and get trapped in between the two pieces. The normal vibrations between the two pieces is causing a sandpaper effect and is scrubbing away the surfaces. It is possible that the mounting bolts have come loose on the rear mounting location of that running board and that is where the problem is.
Look at the diagram from fordparts.com for the mounting locations of the running board.

The running boards would be mounted to the body, I highly doubt Ford bolted them to the frame. That would require a good bit of clearance to prevent what you got going on.

Don't think mud would have caused this. It looks like something that's been happening from some time.

OK looks like the running boards bolt to a set of brackets (S16484) which bolt to the frame. So perhaps I can install some flat washers between the brackets and frame to gain about 1/16".

Thanks for the link.
