Guys the rear door inside handles on my 91 are not working correctly. It is VERY difficult to get the doors open from inside the truck, so much so that sometimes the kids can't get out of the truck and I have to open the doors from the outside. The handles work perfectly normally from the outside.

I'm thinking there's something wrong with the kid safety-latch thing. It is currently disengaged. I have tried flipping the kid-latch lever back and forth to see if that helps, but no effect.

Have any of you had this problem? How did you fix it? Since both doors have the exact same problem I'm thinking it's a worn part or an adjustment issue?

Thanks ! ! !

I had the same problem with my back passenger door. Every time that the handle was pulled it would "give" like it just lost all the tension that was required to open the door. I pulled my door panel off and looked at the handle assembly and one of the teeth in the little "gear" that the handle turns to open the latch was gone. So I bought a new handle assembly and all was well again. It ran like $10 or $15, something like that. Hope this helps!

OK, great, that sounds like the place to start looking for the problem. How does the door panel come off? Do you just gently pry around the edges, like with a putty knife?

Thanks for your help!

A putty knif would probably work a lot better than the flat head screw driver I have used before. But yes, that would work! Do not be afraid to pull hard, its fastened with those round push-in fasteners and will give with a little persuasion.

Thanks - I'll try it! :hammer:

My 95 did that on both sides....You really have to soak every handle component with wd-40 and open the door from the inside about 1000 times...even then it still wasnt normal. Maybe the door handle rods get bent.
