Ok i need help here, for the secodn tiem this week, my Rear end is acting like the sypder gears are welded. Its liek it got an automatic locker now all of a sudden, I mean this could be cool, but my dad said theres the risk of screwing up the axle and a part breaking, i need to know if anyone has had this problem, or if someone can diagnois this, i was planning on a BIG offroading event Sunday, and would like to try and fix this, the only day i have to work on this is tonight and saturday night, which i would pull an all nighter if i had to, saturday day i have to attend a funeral.... Im hoping i dont need a whole new Ring and Pinion or Axle

Thanks for the help

Also we pulled the cover the Fluid level was good, no metal shavings nor missing teeth. and oil looked ok, not contaminated

Perhaps a problem with the rear braking system locking up, would dougbt the diff causing problems after your open inspection

I ran that past my dad and he says he thinks its soemthing in the axle/gears/ring and pinion, and not the brake system, i thought that at first too, but now if it is my axle that has junked out, i see my SAS happing even sooner, that way i can do all the work at the same time, i even ran the idea by him now(i had it ok'ed by my mom already :) )

Thanks

-Caleb

Keep us posted, i find it hard to believe that with a clean looking inspection you would be locking up your diff, but **** happens.
My diff on my roush stang locked up and trashed itself, but that was my fault, pinion was fine, 18 teeth off the ring was in the bottom of the punkin

caleb, spend the 20 bucks or whatever to get the cheaper possibility out of the way. maybe the shoes are binding. (1st gens have rear drums, don't they?)

its not the brakes, it has soemthing to do with the rear differential we figured that out.... we will see, my neighbors son, one i wheel with, that knows alot about axles is coming over soon.....

If you're absolutely sure it's the ring and pinion or differential, and you have an open rear end, then the possibilities are bad gears (which you've eliminated), sticking pinion shafts, bad backlash, bad pinion angle.

yeah, man...of all the easiest things to do, go buy a gasket and some fluid and open up the rear diffy!

well if you would have read Ike i already opened the Axle

But problem solved, earlier i chenged my 4wheel drive computer out, becuase thoguht my other ones was giving me problems, so i chenged it, but the new one, was engaged but did not show it was engaged, so my problem was all 4 wheels were locked into 4wd and trying to turn on pavement

But i would have had the axle torn apart if not for my neighbors son, which is the Dude i go 4 wheeling with..... So all left to do is put old computer back in, and Get some new gear fluid.

Do yall think it would be safe to run synthetic? or is it not worth it, what will the synthetic benefit from?

Thannks for the help and this can be moved to another forum if need be since its not a 911 anymore....

Thanks for the help guys

-Caleb

I think Ford puts in synthetic from the factory don't they?

Synthetic is run in the limited slips.

I am stuck in my old school ways, and if your diff is open, I would stick with good ol' dino.
