Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix the rear end sag of my 96 Explorer Sport, without spending a lot of $$$$$????

Welcome to the site! Add-a-leafs will correct the problem, as well as giving you a little lift, longer shackles will compensate for the problem. Try doing a search of rear end sag and you will be able to find some more info. Hope I helped! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Dead Link Removed

JRM,
A good set of air shocks would level things out for you. the owner before you probably towed some heavy gear with it unless you do. i have a set of Gabriel air shocks they work great when i hook up my trailer, or when im just riding. im looking into the Rancho 9000's with the in cab switch board deal. i think the air shocks are the cheapest way around this problem. wait till you get more info on it though. maybe some one has a better plan/idea.

I just hauled a huge load a long way and ended up with rear sag. Doesn't it bug the hell out of you? I added lift blocks between my leaf springs and the spring u-bolt plate. This picked up the rear. Parts will run you about 50$ + mechanic time. Cheapest quick fix. Allthough, the blocks are visible from behind, I don't like that.

Hi JRM1290,

My '99 XLT rear end will sag when I have a backseat full of people or when I pull my trailer. Eventually I plan to "add-a-leaf" but for now I just installed some Monroe Max-Air shocks which seem to get rid of the sag and work better than the stock shocks even if hardly pumped up.

About $100 bucks and an easy hour to install (the top mount nuts are a pain to reach and you have to drop the spare).

jf26, I'm confused. We have spring under axle setups. Lift blocks lower our vehicles, not raise them. How did you get yours to work? If I could figure out how to do that, it would be another option we could use to lift our rears.

GJarret, I don't know the more I look at the set up the more I wonder myself. I will speak to the mechanic this weekend and find out how they leveled it out.
The leafs are sitting on top of the block not below. This lowers the u-bolt plate I think and the shocks as well? So, could it be streching the shocks? I remember when they installed the blocks above the leafs the back still loked low when they set it down. Check back later.
