I own a 99 explorer since new with only 55k miles on it and few years ago I notice that the rear end of the suv is siting lower. I changed the shocks a month ago and still the same.

Could it be the rear springs?

I was told a long time ago that it was a common problem in this vehicles.

Thanks in advance for any info.

It is the "rear end sag"

You can get a new leaf pack to fix it, or you could add shackles. AAL will help too. Any of those, depending on how much it is sagging.

Good luck!

sitting lower, sagging, po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe.

If the rear is lower than it was, it's generally referred to as sagging here.

mine was sagging, I did an AAL, now it's back to level.

Thanks for the info, were is the best place to get parts. This is what a use every day so I don't need anything expensive.

Thanks a lot.

Add A Leaf

Virtually all Explorers/Mountaineers 95-01 squat or sag, the springs dearch and thus the lower ride height.

Installation wise, shackles would be easier, but the AAL is a better solution, IMO

Summit racing has the aal for about $35.

Just be warned that it will significantly stiffen your ride.

Just did shackles on mine last week. Leveled it right out and super easy to install. Search for threads on here.

I read somewhere that you can change the bushings all around and it fixed the fellas problems but I can't find it anywhere...can anyone verify this?

Has anyone had any success with getting the leafs rehardened / resprung?

I just bought a set of rear shackle extensions at autozone for $7.95 and lifted the rear end three inches.

This is something interesting to find out about. I have a shop in town that will do this, but is it worth it? Does it work? And for how long?

I had this done to my old BII years ago, but I also added a leaf to it. It raised the back end up about 2" over the saggy rear end height.

I have not called to have this done to mine yet, but have been threatening to have it done. I can see that the rear end sits about 1" lower than the front end, just by eye at least. When I call and / or if it is still cheap enough to do, I will post my findings.
