Rear mounted lifting boom

Some of you know that I have a spinal cord injury that keeps me from lifting heavy items. Been thinking of making a rear mounted extendable boom with hand crank or small electric winch. It could be mounted on side of roll cage and then swing out over bumper. The rear tail gate comes off in seconds if it needed to be removed. It would be very handy lifting trannies, transfer cases or great during the hunting season when loading that big buck.

My question is, where could I find a small electric winch? It only has to lift a few hundred pounds.

I have seen products made for this very purpose- I think most of them have hand winches though. Not sure.

I think the trouble with electric winches is the small ones are usually cheaply made, unless you got something like a 4wheeler winch.

what about a setup designed for putting a wheel chair in and out of a truck bed. I've seen those with electric winches, I just don't know how much it would lift.

One problem with those, IMO:

The cost of a new inside lift is between $995.00 and $1995.00, depending on the model you chose.

EDIT: That it what really makes me mad about products made and targeted to the elderly or disabled- they are incredibly expensive for what they are.

The Zukman designed a hitch mount type loading boom several years ago. It is light weight and breaks down into two pieces. It will easily lift 800 lbs (elk tested!) this one runs on a hand winch. I need to either retrieve pics form limping computer or take new ones for you.

I had a HF one I put in the back corner of the bed on my Ranger, to lift palm logs with. First time I strapped up a piece and started lifting, the log stayed on the ground, and the truck got lower and lower! My springs couldn't handle the weight.
If you do this, think about some sort of brace from the bumper to the ground.
