Hey everyone, I'm fairly new here and new to the explorer in general.
So here goes, i was following my wife home tonight from a family function and noticed that the rear of the explorer looks like it rode squatted in the rear and when we got home i checked it out and just sitting there obviously still sits squatted. Upon closer inspection i noticed the rear tires had noticably more wear on the inside then the rest of the tire. So i was wondering what could be causing this? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. Take care.

earlier models had problems with the rear springs rusting and breaking, where it sits in the rubber. Haven't heard of many '04 doing it, might be hard to see, but usually its at the end of the spring, about 1-2" will break off. Some have drive months without knowing.

Other causes could be: Rear Struts? Ball Joints? infamous rear Wheel bearings?

Or if your lucky the tire wear might just be an alignment, the shop might check all of those previous problems if you take it in to a 'good' shop. Note on the alignment, the tolerance is very wide imo, 0-7degrees, on the rears the shop will most likely just set the toe-in because to adjust the camber you need something called a 'camber kit', which is just new bolts and a special washer. The the shops don't usually carry it so they skip it, i'd check if they will do it, or a least get it somewhere close. If something is broke or worn it would be tough.

Inspect the rear springs very closely...look for a break somewhere. 3rd gen's are known to have that issue, moreso on '02 and '03 years, but the '04 may have the same problem.

alrighty when i go there tommorow i'll ask em to check all that out, thanks alot guys.
