Ok. So my window wouldn't go up or down using the power buttons. But I still could hear the motor running and some weird noises. Friends tell me "It's probally just off track - easy fix".

Then I take off the inside panel and im looking at this:

Then I remove the (what I'll call) motor:

My question is should I take this apart and try to fix the cables ? Are they even "fixable" ? Or just order a new one ?

Ok update. Got bored and decided to take things apart and have a look:

Mine did the same, got a new one from NAPA for $89

easy to change out except for removing the stock rivets

I changed mine. Just took a large drill bit and drilled straight through the door and onto the rivit. Put new regulator in and used a bolt/nut/lockwasher to bring it back together. So far, so good:)

Are the front and rear regulators inter-changeable?

And now I know what the part is actually called .. I thought the whole thing was the motor. But its the regulator. Cool. Thx.

i am not sure if i am allowed to post this but i am parting out a 1997 explorer and have a regulator i will sell

No I don't think the front and rear regulators are interchangable.
