Rear power window issue

Just bought a 2005 Sport Trac. The rear power window will only go half way up and then goes back down. Any suggestions?

Gears in the window motor gone bad. It could be the regulator but if you pull off the door panel you can check the teeth visibly. The motor not easy to check. I had this happen in the rear of my explorer. The window wouldn't stay rolled up and would slowly fall down as I drove.

Spaznaut he is talking about rear window on a Sport Trac, which is different than doors.
The brain of this window is located on the motor, there are posts on how to reprogram this unit. If it will not work after reprogramming you will need a new motor. Also the switch on dash could be problematic, this window is not an easy fix and expensive.
I wired my rear window motor directly, with a different switch (normal window rocker switch) and it's been working fine for 4 years.
I suggest you remove motor and lifting mechanism and block rear window in up position from inside window compartment, this will make ST water tight.
Then inspect motor, lifting mechanism at your leisure find the problem and decide what to do.

mine does the same thing, have not figured it out yet, but i start it up then press for the vent option which allows it to remain in the vent position

IMO the way the ST's rear window works is just plain stupid. IDK why Ford didn't just use a rocker switch and allow it to work like any other power window.

Thanks for your replies! It was a programming issue. Appearantly, when power is disconnected (such as swapping out a battery) the window has to be reprogrammed. I googled how to do it and it's working fine.

I've had my battery disconnected many times and never had to reprogram anything, but mine's a 2001,,, Glad you figured it out.
