i'm planning on getting a superlift 5.5" suspension lift for my '94 xlt sometime in the future. what options do i have for lifting the rear to match that 5.5", and which would you people recommend? So far I've heard of spring over axle, add-a-leaf, shackles, etc. Thanks for the info.

An add-a-leaf and shackles will not get you 5.5" of lift. Superlift sells new spring perches to do a spring over axle. This is the cheapest way to get the lift you need to match the front. You could get new full arched springs either custom made, maybe the Skyjacker 6" lift leaf springs, and keep the springs under the axle. but this would be much more expensive.

Thanks for the response. Would you know the part number for the superlift perches, and where I can get them from? 4wheelparts doesn't seem to have them on their site, unless I'm overlooking them. Also, what are the relocation brackets for in the Superlift kits for the 90-94 Explorer at Dead Link Removed?
I'm not quite up to speed on all the different components of suspension systems, I wish there were a site somewhere that listed the different parts of a vehicle's (truck's) suspension and what they do, or something. Oh well.

if you buy the superlift 5.5 it comes with a bracket to do a spring over that is included with the lift
