Rear sway bar bushings

Trying to install rear sway bar bushings - 99 mercury mountaineer 5.0. Both bushings are solid with no cut to fit onto sway bar. Did I get the wrong bushings or do I need to take off the end links and attempt to slide them on?

I agree, but has anyone tried cutting one? How much play is there in the bracket, I mean if it compresses it already, might not be a problem considering some other applications do have a cut to slip on.
