Help! I have a 98 Sport, and the door handle for the tailgate seems to have broken. There is no resistance on it when I pull on it, and obviously it doesn't open the tailgate. The lock seems to be working fine...I also can't open the rear window. Is there a way I can release this latch from inside the truck, since I have a whole explorer full of music equipment I need access to. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know the answer to this? How hard is it to fix? Just a new handle or what?

In case anyone's interested, once I figured out how to get the rear trim panel off, it was a 10 second fix. There's a little bar thingy that moves up and down when the door locks and unlocks. The wiring for the license plate lights got moved over enough to prevent the hatch from unlocking when the doors were unlocked.

Hm, well my latch doesn't want to move one way and the other way does nothing. Is that somewhat how yours was? And you can get the paneling off with the door shut? Thanks.
