Ok here is the story so far.
Got 98 x xlt UK export model.
The centre console has a blanking plate at the top rear for vents. Inside there is ducting at the bottom for the fixed vents.
Does anybody know where I can get the vents from.
There is no point sugesting breakers yard as there arn't any in the UK with x's and even if there were none of the UK models have the vents fitted.
Thanks.

Maybe try www.fordpartsnetwork.com. Send the sales department an email explaining what you need. I would mention that you are in the UK to see if there are any issues with shipping or other, since they are a US based company. You might not be able to just get the vents, but it's worth a shot anyway.

NO REAR VENTS

Hey guy's i need to restart this thread as i to have the exact samr thing as what Howard said, bassially, for some un-apparent reason Ford has put a blank backing in the back of the console for where the vents are suposed to be for all AUS model X's so the scrap yard is useless! i'll try FPN but my question is when i finally do get the vents i will need the new panel for the rear radio controls that will have the fan speed and fan position selector (hoping i can also get from FPN) will i need to install a fan blower or something for the rear fan speed selector or does it already have it there???
I know that the ducting is there as i can feel air coming out of the bottom of it!!!
Also when i come to puting the vents in do i need to take the whole console out to put the vents in or can i just open the back of it up to do the work???
Thanks in advance guy's!!!!

Just to let you know that I did the mod and here is what I did.

I bought the two rear vents and the riser duct to them.

I removed the rear panel from the centre console.
To get to the top screws I had to remove the part of the console that the hand brake goes through and the liner (they just lift off) and the fold down lid (two screws). Then I discovered that my x is completely different to the US models as far as the ducting goes because of allowing the handbrake to be in the middle. The ducting is much narrower and the new riser duct won't fit. Forget fitting the rear controls, there is no way you can fit it all together. So I modified the riser duct so that it sits on top of the existing duct. You have to cut off the flap piece, hence you can't control the air flow and you can't fit the rear blower fan either because the handbrake is in the way. To get air flow I cut a slot in the top of the existing duct and put a permanent piece of plastic in to direct the air flow up-wards. I used duck tape to hold it all together. You can see the finished result.

Not quite as good as the US fitting but better than a blanking piece.

thanks for that but if you can't direct the flow at all now then air will always come out of there right so do you think it is still worth it??? Where did you get the vents from??? and how much???
and can you explain a bit more on how to get that flat pannel off?

The air now will only come out of the top (new vents). I'm not sure if it was worth it. Maybe you can do a better mod than me. The front fan does control the amount of air.

Here is the parts list:
F57Z-19893-AS Genuine Ford LH floor console vent grey $ 10.99
F57Z-19893-AN Genuine Ford RH floor console vent grey $ 19.99
F5TZ-18C420-A Genuine Ford rear Duct $29.99

As you can see the parts are not too costly but the shipping was $80. You might be better trying to get them trough a Ford dealer. Have a look at these to see how it all goes together.

and the ducting

You'll have to decide what is best. Good luck.

thanks so much for that the diag's are great i'll give it a shot and i'll let you know

I wish you all the best. I had to do some serious trimming of the riser duct to get it to fit but you may not have to do as much. Remmember that the vent do move up and down and you can move the flow left/right. I'm sorry that I did not have my camera when I did the mod so no in progress pics. It all come appart pretty easily once you see the order to go in. Nothing needs forcing. I'm happy with my mod anyway and that's what counts. :D

Howard we have the exact same "X" the UK and AUS ones have the centre handbrake and floorshift but anywayi'll do my best i am currently trying to get FORD AUS to import them for me with there next batch of stock. wish me luck

Good luck :D :D :D :D
