Both sides of my rear passenger window channels are rusted so badly they're crunchy and leak between the two pieces of glass. I've been all over the site looking for tips. Anyone have a link, suggestions or pics how to replace that window channel? Do I need to replace the whole trim or can I find just that one piece? Thanx in advance.

Mine are getting to be the same way. According to the Ford dealer, the whole trim thing is one piece, and it includes the small pane of glass. They're rather expensive. The part for the right rear door is F872-7825767-AAB (last part might be BAA) - quoted at $213.

hmm...looks like it's off to the j/y. Is the trim rivited in? Is it an easy job? There is a previous post here for the rear window section replacement...but not the whole thing.

*watching* I need to do the same

maybe I'll investigate while I'm at the junk yard

it's not too terribly complicated. According to the parts guy at the dealer, the black trim piece below the window comes off first (there's a screw or nut that holds it on), and the door panel has to come off. He said that it can be replaced with the window rolled down, even though the piece integrates the rear window track. The piece itself may have some kind of glue/sealant on it, and the window track part is held on with a bolt at the bottom of the track.

I have not verified this - if the window does need to come off, then you'll have to drill out the rivet that holds the window to the power window actuator.

(thinking again....)

maybe replacing and painting the door is easier/cheaper? I'm going to the scrappers too... find one door to practice on and if it's simple enough...will find a couple of doors with good trim pieces to bring home.

at the junkyard today it seemed EASY to replace the track

in fact many tracks were removed already

Yep- I think it's a grand total of 3 bolts. Problem is, many of them are crunchy too. If you can find them, grab them- it's easy to replace, much easier than painting and replacing the doors.

awesome. :biggthump

I'll have to keep an eye out at the junkyard for one in good shape - I was looking a round a while ago and most of the ones I saw were just as rusted as mine.

warhoops at 18.5 between mound and vandyke had a ton of second gen explorer's virtually untouched, hes famous for really old cars

parts galore at 8 and hoover has a lot of first gens and one or two second gens

parts galore on west warren in detroit has a ton of second gens and first gens, but they've been picked over, need to wait for rotation

it seems the rail was the same for 91-01

Yep- the mirrored tint on the rear door 1/4 window would be the same from '91- early '97. From late '97 and on they were smoke/black tint but the rubber frames were the same.

The door is full of different parts, and those whole rear glass channel pieces are the most expensive. Those are the only ones that require removing the glass, because the channel goes around the top and both sides. I bought both new recently to replace when I get painting done. My old ones will come out then.

Watch those glass channels, those are the hardest to deal with if rusting. The rest is just trim, and the window felt.

Buy those window felts if you plan to keep the truck a while, and they are the easiest to change, five minutes.

yeah...there's a thread on here with someone who replaced their quarter windows due to theft. It just never showed the whole trim removal. Actually, that's why I'm replacing my channels. The rust is so bad it's parted and twisted from the two pieces of glass...water and air get in. The only thing keeping the corrosion together is the rubber trim on either side.

Been to Parts Galore many times... sometimes find good things, sometimes disappointed...

I'll have to check out warhoops though - I'm always looking for a good junkyard. Even though I actually live in Lansing now, I make it over to that side of town relatively often

I'd check with Karl here for parts first. That's a common item which should be available, you just need them without corrosion.

I found one... but it has small pits in the paint with small surface rust... it could work if I new how to replicate the outer coating, but I think I'll keep looking for now

DCJ4, were you able to replace the channel? My driver side rear window channel is badly rusted and I am looking for replacing it. Any hint on the procedure will be appreciated.
