Hi all. New to the board and trying not to abuse it, but I do have some maintenance to catch up on.

My '97 XLT has the day/night auto dim rearview mirror mounted quite securely to the windsheild. However, as the car moves down the road, the mirror shimmies uncontrollably. You can't see anything through it because the shaking creates a constant blur while moving.

It seems like the mirror should be adjustable where the post meets the actual mirror frame. Maybe the clip I've seen on the outstanding picture post on another thread (for reattaching) is adjustable. I assume it's lost it's tension.

Any ideas?

the metal clip is glued tot he glass, the mirror itself then uses a set screw to hold it against the metal clip. Check and make sure the set sccrew is tight (small allen wrench)

if it is tight then you need a new mirror likely, the adjustment at the ball fange (where mirror meets post) is old and loose. You can try re-adjusting the mirror to make it tight again. My BII mirror did what you describe for quite a while, then I found I could move the mirror down a little (the post) and then for me to see right it was tight again.....

I don't think the '97 ex has a set screw set up on the mirror. It is glued to the glass. but I think the tension is held by some kind of internally mounted spring as opposed to a set screw. What am I missing?
