Hey all,

Appreciate the help in advance and in my defense i searched the hell out of this topic EVERYWHERE.

I bought an 04 ST XLT from a coworker about 2 weeks back and he had recently replaced the rear window after one of his kids had threw a wrench through it. The window seems to have been put on right , however the initialization process ( key to on --> push vent 6 times --> key to off --> vent 6 times again --> key to on --> all the way up --> all the way down --> all the way up) only starts about half the time i try it. This leads me to think the switch may be bad to start off with. Anyways, the times i do get it to start the initialization process, it goes fine until i go to bring it back up to top, at which point it doesnt seem to go all the way up, but instead goes to a somewhat vent position. it has done this several times to me.

This paired up with the fact i can only get the process to start sometimes leads me to think that either switch is going bad or i need to perform the alternate initialization in which i would need to replace my a/c blower resistor first.

Once again any help is appreciated.

Well.........from your comment regarding the A/C blower resistor I see right off you are misunderstanding the process. The initialization of the window has nothing to do with the heat/vent/AC. The "vent"position of the window is where the confusion lies.

Check your email.

I should have been more specific.

The alternate initialization process calls for interaction with the ac blower in which it needs to be alternated between the 2nd blower setting and no blowing at all, and currently my blower speed resistor is malfunctioning and only allows my blowing setting to be at max or not work at all.

I am aware the a/c has nothing to do with the back window. However it has alot to do with the alternate initialization process, which seems to be specific for a "bouncing" motion like mine is making during the last step.

Am i right in the assumption my switch should be replaced first? or am i off-base?

Where are you seeing an alternate procedure that alls for any involvement of the blower or H VAC system?

Look in the stickies at the top, subject FAQ's for the alternate procedure which indicates motor replacement. Personally I have never had a window fail to operate after the standard procedure, PROVIDED there is no binding or mechanical failure.

Wow.... i thought the key position diagrams were AC blower settings.... i feel a bit dumb after that realization.

In light of that, the door opening and closing must not be that vital because i never did that and it worked a few times.

Alas, I am gonna try the initialization with the door opening and see how far that gets me. Another thought i had after seeing the diagram in the right light was the initialization starts with the window fully down according to them....sooooo maybe i should start the iniatilzation process, get the window fully down, then restart the initialization process with the window at the bottom? Worth a try i suppose.

Thanks for help ranchero ill update when i get a chance to try it.
