I had a bike rack with an old Schwinn on the back of my x, and the metal brake handle scratched a nice dime-sized pattern in the rear glass. It seems to have just scratched the surface tint, and the scratched area has a silver color.

I tried toothpaste after finding it in another thread, but it had no effect. Does anyone know if this can be buffed out or otherwise repaired without replacing the glass? Tinted glass with defrost is not cheap.

I can take a pic tomorrow if it will help.

Thanks.

Once glass is scratched, there is not a whole lot you can do about it but replace it. That's why it's been so silent, LOL.

Sounds like a trip to the junk yard is in your future.

So much for a cheap fix.

Yeah, guess I'll go pick through the local yards.
:thumbdwn: Hatch mounted carriers. Hitch / roof only from now on.

Thanks again. :p

Thanks, I'll check into that. I don't know how it would work with the tint, but maybe.

The scratches are really very fine, they just managed to change the color. It isn't even noticeable from the inside. I'm also trying to figure out if a glass polishing kit for my buffer would work. My feeling is that it may just scratch the whole window.
