I was washing my X-Sport and by mistake I moved the rear wiper (gave it a push). I moved it back manually to its idle position but now, when I turned on, it moves very erratic. It didn't complete the regular movement. Start stopping at the middle of the glass, vibrates and sometimes just stuck. I have to move the button more than one time to the "off" position to get it back to its idle position.

Any idea?

Thanks!

Turn it on again and when it gets stuck, jiggle the arm where it enters the rear door until you move it back into it's proper place and it should work. Kinda like having to pop a dislocated shoulder back into place.....

Thanks for responding! I'm going to try asap and post back the results. Thanks for your time.

Any luck?

Not tried yet. I'm at work right now but don't worry. I'll try and post the results immediately. Thanks for follow-up.

Didn't work

Well... I tried and it didn't work. I tried moving the wiper joint while the motor was running but it seems that its something different the problem.

What else could be?

When you moved the arm, you might have popped the motor off it's mounts. IF I remember correctly, the wiper motor is on a rubber bushing isolation mount. To access that, you will have to remove the door interior trim.

Will try tonight...

Thanks! I will try tonight when I get home. I will post the results immediately.

Rear Wiper Motor

I have a similar problem. My motor for the rear wiper is dead so I bought a new one. I can't get the interior door trim off without breaking it. Is there any trick to this? Or a specific tool that would help? The plastic breaks before the clips release.......

How much did a new wiper motor cost you, westas ?

trim tool

I have some problems with my rear wiper too. It doesn't clean the glass over the range. I tried to see what was wrong so I removed the panel. I wasn't able to remedy the situation but I can tell you about removing that panel:

A trim tool should be used. As I remember, start at the top (towards roof and around the glass opening) and work those clips first and then work your way down. Don't forget the screws on that dangling strap handle, and I think another underneath that small oval cover-plate on the sill.On mine, '99 4 door, the bottom was stuck so I pulled hard in frustration. I found that there are molded in hangers, like hooks, that hang the bottom portion to the metal. So be careful not to break these as I did! I Shoe-gooed mine back together, but that took time. So, once you remove the upper fasteners with a trim tool (I used a Stanley Wonderbar with tape on it before I bought a trim tool) you will want to slide the panel upwards and out; this is not shown or talked about in the Haynes manual, unfortunately/////

I got it from Auto Zone for around $75, you get $30 back when you give them the old one.......... so around 50 bucks.

Guys,

this worked perfectly for my 97 4.0 Explorer....

I removed the wiper arm with a flathead screwdriver by holding the small clip that is on the inside of the arm, closest to round-motor-part. It took some foolin' around but after a little while the arm just popped right off easily. SO... after I painted the sucker (i originally removed it because the black paint on the wiper arm was peeling- like every single explorer on the road so i noticed) I just popped the wiper arm back onto the motor and I thought it was cool BUT ... the wiper was ****ed when I used it. ( it would wipe half window and half rear door.. and would not go onto its resting spot).

so I removed it and put it back on several times... the trick is to watch the rotating motor when the wiper arm is removed. This way you can judge the correct position in which to put the wiper blade back on. i.e. You want to put the arm back onto the right spot so that when the motor is turned farthest to the right the blade is in the corresponding position. When its all the way to the left... put the blade on facing, oh lets say, the 10 oclcok position.

I thought about removing the door panel and didn't because I had no idea how to get it off and I was sure once I did I would probably screw it up getting it on again. Try this method first and if it doesn't work then screw with the door panel and wiper motor. I hope this helps, i know i rambled a bit so if you want clarification of my method just ask and I will respond again. good luck
