Rear wiper not wiping properly. Any ideas?

The rear wiper on my Ex misses about a 30-40 degree arc when wiping. It clears a little then doesn’t start to clear again until roughly vertical and clears the second half ok. On the return sweep it misses the same area. I have tried bending the arm slightly to increase the pressure on the glass but it then just gets stuck going on to the glass.

Any ideas how to solve this anyone please?

You could look see if the mounting points for the mechanism are as they shoud be. Might not be tight enough so as the motor turns it twists itself in an angle to pull it away from the glass

check if the wiper arm is parallel to the glass, my one was doing the same until my friend told me to check the angle, what I did, I removed a wiper, and rest an arm against a glass, it did looked like it is not parallel, using spanner I did twist it to make it lay on a glass perfectly, since this trick, it does work best

It needs a new wiper arm itself, common on the Explorer.

The wiper arm seems fine and is parallel to the glass. How does the back door trim panel come off to check the mounting points? I didn't want to force it because in case it wasn't just plastic studs.

As a short term measure I have moved the arm up slightly so that it sits just on the glass. Now at least it cleans.

I have never taken mine off but i believe you have to remove the screws for the handle and remove the handle then the rest of the panel IIRC is held on with trim clips. Sure someone thats done it will pipe up soon

Remove the handle and the hidden screw by the windows under the lift out plug. The top (around the window) pulls away and then you have to lift the whole panel up to disengage the L shaped lugs along the bottom.

With the arm set slightly on the glass now, it gives a lovely big sweep to the same point on the other side of the glass.
