Is it a coincidence that the rear wiper and the washer stopped working? Is there something that triggers both? When I turn on the wiper i can here the relay clicking so I assumed just the motor was bad and then I went to thinking why doesn't the washer work either. Just asking before I go and buy a rear wiper motor. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!!

I had this along with a dimly lit rear defrost light on the dash. Turned out that the plastic shield on the wires that run from the roof to the rear glass had split right in the middle from opening and shutting the rear glass. This then wore through the wires running inside. All I had to do was splice the wires back together and cover them with some new split loom and I was all set.

HTH, Brian.

bleoh - brilliant! That was exactly the same symptoms and problem I was trying to track down. Glad I found your post before I tried replacing the multi-function switch. Saved me the money and the aggravation.

My "Rear Wiper INOP" experience is somewhat different, but I wanted to share this possibility to the Forum.

My Rear Wiper was discovered NOT to be working when I returned to the Dealer for the "Touch of Class" treatment; 20 days after Delivery. That was back in May 23, 2013.
The Service Tech Replaced the Rear Wiper Motor, changed some Relays under the hood to no avail. He determined that he would need the Explorer for 3-5 days to do a proper Troubleshooting.
My Explorer was too new to "go without" at that time, so I chose to wait for the first Servicing and have the "Rear Wiper INOP" issue sorted out.

I brought the 2013 Explorer in to Service Dept (Sunnyvale Ford & Lincoln, CA) on Monday afternoon drop-off, for a Tuesday 0900 Appointment.
I stopped by Wednesday afternoon for an update. After "extensive" troubleshooting, it was "Escalated" to the FORD National Service for Help from the Factory experts.
Ford recommended replacing the FRONT Wiper Motor,...so Sunnyvale Ford put one on order.
The Dealer Service Expert explained to me that since this issue has been "Escalated to Ford " all activities are now determined and tracked by the Ford Factory guys. Ford is heading up the troubleshooting and the dealer cannot act without Ford's Authorization.

Ford has determined the next logical step to repair the Rear Wiper INOP,...is to replace the FRONT Wiper Motor,...which is now "On Order" at the Dealer, so I start the wait.

Crystal, I would like to reach out to you for your Help in following up with this "Ford Activity". May I PM you my VIN and Details?
Patiently optimistic,
Milty
