Hey gang,
I am rebuilding my power steering gearbox (it leaks bad) and ran into 2 problems.

1) Removing the lock nut and retaining washer on the worm drive. Requires a special tool. Any way around this?

2) Removing the seals from the lower section - right above the pitman arm. I got the snap ring out ok, but the seals and washers don't want to move.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Jon

The seal..Probally will need a vise and a slide puller, should be able to get at the parts store.
The nut, not sure..Is it a "eyed" clip??

Got the seal out - used a nail punch to pry it out. I'm not going to worry about the nut on the worm gear. That wasn't leaking anyhow. Just gonna put the box back together and if it doesn't work, I'll bite the bullet and get a new one...

Good Luck..

After examing the main shaft (where the pitman arm sits) I found there is a lot of wear. Will be putting everything back together, but it doesn't seem like there is much hope for this not leaking. May need a new box...
