I read most of the threads here involving changing the transmission fluid and filter. I decided to only change the fluid that was in the pan and the filter due to exessive mileage, 82k.

Afterwards when I took it for a test drive, I noticed that it did not want to shift from 1st to second gear without releasing the gs pedal. I returned home and added more fluid since it was a little low.

Overall, the trans works fine, but I now noiced that when I irst start the truck up for the day that I have slipping problems. This morning when I left I needed to back up. This was fine, however, when I shifted into drive, the trans did not engage. I had to place in park then drive again. Then there was a little slipping. Not too much though.

I wonder if this is something that will work itself out or maybe loosening all of the crud and removing the aged fluid caused problems.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hmm, did a search and did not find the thread that was posted earlier this morning. Sorry for not adding onto that one.

I had the exact same issue, turned out to be too much fluid. Make sure that the fluid is warm, the owners manual says drive 20 miles then shift through all the gears, Park through 1st and back up to park then check the fluid level, you might be surprised how much the fluid expands.

I'll try that. I drove the truck for a while, but I do not think it was 20 miles. I will check it after my long rive home. Id there is too much, I wonder how I can get some out?

And yes, it could be that you shouldn't have changed the fluid. Sometimes on a neglected tranny it's better not to change the fluid until the tranny fails.

i have heard that too

Another issue that I've read about, is the seal in the filter you installed may be loose. If it is loose, it will have a small leak causing a pressure loss.

Check the fluid level first, then perhaps reopen to ensure the filter is tight.

Good luck

my friend has a 95 civic that needs tranny fluid u can tell..its very clunky..the shop said not to do a full flush ebcause the tranny might be worse off? and they said its 100 bucks to do it EEEEEEKKK!!!!!

I figure if the trans is going to go after you do a flush, it's going to go out anyway sooner or later. Might as well get it over with...

I have done a flush/filter change at 75,000 miles, and now have 101,000 and am about to do it again, this time with synthetic.

Rhett or anyone else when you changed at 75,000 was that the first time and did you run into any problems that werent there before. slipping, dripping, etc. I have 74,200 now and I have been running 33s for the last 15,000 and I am wanted to change to syntheic to hopefully help ease the task for the tranny. Is it worth it to change it now?? I really dont want to have to deal with a leak or slipping, I just want to treat it as well as I can. Ford recommends a change at 70,000
