I want to reduce as much weight as i can from my '91 XLT. I don't want to take anything off that would not pass Virginia state inspction, or get me killed if i wreck. What can i remove, if anything?

Yeah, remove the seats, yank the carpet, swap the engine out for an aluminum 4 banger, yank the gas tank for a smaller unit. get rid of the 4 wheel drive, get rid of the a/c, remove the battery for longer trips, dump the spare, use donut spares all around with aluminm rims, replace the hood with a fiberglass version, drop the shock abosrbers, and sripping all the paint might help. Sarcasm, I know... I dont really think that there is much that you can really do to reduce weight of an exploder really. Why tring to get better milage?

He is right about aluminum rims though. If you have steel rims and don't need the toughness of them, then go with set of aluminum whells and that will lighten your load a little.
