Remote Question

Hello everyone.

I just recently acquired a 2000 Exploror XLT from my father in law who cant be trusted worth a **** and never gave up the remote for the truck. Is there any way I can wipe out the old code from the truck so the remote wont work on my truck and he cant steal my stuff?

BTW +1 for the steps on how to change door codes. I just hope he doesnt remember the original one.

I've never looked into this to see how it might work, but I'm wondering if you could change the module in the left rear of the truck to change the default door code. I'm thinking that would work just fine...but I've never done it to know for sure. I also think if you reprogram new remotes, it will wipe out any old ones. I don't think it allows you to ADD to the remotes...you must reprogram with all your remotes to keep them active. Any remote not programmed with the new sequence will no longer work. So that part of it should be easy.

A dealership or locksmith will be needed when you change out the RAP module. Changing the RAP module and reprogramming the remotes will clear out the old remotes and change the factory keyless entry code. Without changing the RAP module, you cannot change the factory keyless entry code.

Aack!! I'm getting my acronyms confused... I'm confusing my PATS with my RAP... There should be no need to reprogram the RAP after replacing it. The two aren't directly related... The RAP is used to gain entry... the PATS is used to prevent/enable ignition. THey were blurred together. (It was still early... Hadn't finished my cup of coffee...)

He'll need to reprogram his new remotes, but that can be done by the user as mentioned earlier in the thread... and his uncle's remotes and door code will no longer work.
