2010 Explorer XLT
I recently had my remote start replaced in my '06 Explorer. The old one, an after market model, had been installed prior to me owning the vehicle. About two years ago my door locks began cycling every 15 to 20 seconds. So needless to say, I was unable to lock my vehicle and my battery would run down if I didn't run the car every couple of hours. I also noticed that airbag warning light would come on but if I turned the vehicle off and restarted it with a key, there was no warning light. The problems subsided during the summer and of course started when winter hit. This year though both remote fobs stopped working.

I took it to my local dealer to get checked it out and I was told the after market remote start messed up and began sending conflicting signals into the vehicle's computer. I had them remove the old unit and install a Ford remote start. I go pick it up and I find out it only starts my car. It doesn't unlock my doors. Service fella tells me that my model Explorer lacks the security system that allows the unit to unlock the doors.

Now it's back in the shop. This new unit won't start the vehicle all the time. Sometimes the vehicle simply honks and flashes it's lights signalling that the remote start has been activated but yet the car doesn't start. Other times the vehicle the starter kicks over, a belt squeaks and the vehicle immediately dies.

I called the dealership tonight on my way to work to check on my Explorer. I was told that the manager was out driving it around and it may have to be sent to a "specialist."

Now, with all that said, any idea what in the world is wrong with my vehicle??!!
